Homicide team investigating fatal stabbing in Abbotsford

A man has been fatally stabbed in Abbotsford, B.C., according to police.

A man has been fatally stabbed in Abbotsford, B.C.

A statement from Abbotsford police saidofficers were called to an area near the Sumas Way overpass just after 10 p.m. PT Wednesday.

Robert Nelson, 35,was found critically injured insidea tent at Riverside Road and King Road. He died a short time later in hospital.

"This appears to be a homeless encampment area. We presume there were others in this area who lived here and we're still trying to figure out if our victim, in fact, lived here as well," said Sgt. Frank Jangof the RCMP's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

Police saidthe investigation is just beginning but the stabbing appears targeted. IHITis looking for people in the community who knew Nelson or who lived in the area.

The statement didnot offer a motive or say if any suspects have been identified.

Anyone with more information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
