Kelowna woman to cover royal B.C. visit for U.K. website

Tea, winery tours and charity visits: those are some of the things the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge might get up to when they visit B.C., according to a Kelowna woman who covers the Royal Family for a U.K. based website.

Jamie Samhan lives in Kelowna but works as an assistant editor for Royal Central. Samhan is covering Prince William and his wife Kate's visit to B.C. and Yukon between Sept. 24 and Oct. 1, likely accompanied by their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Will and Kate will probably tour a winery during their Sept. 27 visit to Kelowna, said Samhan,but she's been toldthere's also going to be a tea event happening in the city.

Samhan speculated the tea event will be hosted by a charity supported by the Royal Family.

"They'll meet with the people who run the charity and the people who are benefiting from it and just try to meet as many people and make an impact on as many people in the little time that they have."

Through her role with Royal Central, Samhan will get to attend royal events in Victoria, Vancouver and Kelowna.

"I'm going to be live recording everything on Instagram and just getting people to have the experience that I'm having," she said.

While Samhan "anxiously" waits for Kensington Palace to release Will and Kate's official itinerary of events, she is busy planning a tea party in Vancouver on Sept. 24 to celebrate the royal tour. The tea party will be hosted by Royal Central and the blogWhat Would Kate Do?

Samhan has felt a strong connection to the Royal Family ever since Princess Diana died on Aug. 31, 1997, the same day as Samhan's eighth birthday.

"Ever since then I knew there was a huge impact that the Royals had on people," said Samhan. "There's something very romantic about the entire thing that captures my entire imagination."

Samhan started out at Royal Central as a blogger before becoming an assistant editor about a year ago.

She has never met a member of the Royal Family in person and while she would love to change that during Will and Kate's upcoming visit, she is realistic about her chances.

"I am hoping for an interview, but being a smaller media publication we don't tend to get them," she said.

"But I can always dream."
