Road rage leads to police pursuit and arrest

Police on Vancouver Island arrested a man on Sunday after reports that he had pointed a shotgun at another driver in a road-rage incident.

Police on Vancouver Island arrested a man on Sunday after reports that he had pointed a shotgun at another driver in a road-rage incident.

West Shore RCMPsay they received multiple reports of an aggressive driver who was possibly under the influence of drugs Sunday afternoon.

They also received a callclaiming the suspect pointed a shotgun at another driver.

The suspect, who is in his mid-20s,fled from policeat speeds of up to 140km/h when officers tried to intercept him on the Trans-Canada Highway.

Hesurrendered to police when he became caught in traffic on the Island Highway near Wale Road in Colwood.

Police say theyrecovered a shotgun and a large knife in the suspect's vehicle, a brown Chevrolet minivan.

Thesuspectis also alleged to have backed into another vehicle on purpose several times, injuring the driver inside. The driver was treated for whiplash and released from the hospital.

Police say the suspect isknown to them andhas no fixed address.He is facing multiple firearms, driving, breach, drug and other criminal-relatedcharges.

  • An earlier version of this story said police had engaged in two high-speed pursuits. In fact, there was only one pursuit. In their first encounter with the suspect, police say they chose not to purse for safety reasons.
