Suspect arrested in alleged police shooting in remote B.C. village

RCMP say a standoff began Thursday night when officers attempted to execute an arrest warrant on a rural property near Argenta in the Kootenays.

Police have arresteda man suspected of shooting a police officer after a tense standoff in the remote community of Argenta in the Kootenays.

The man holed up in a cabin on a remote property Thursday night after police arrivedtoexecute an arrest warrant. It's unclear when the officer was shot.

The officer is in serious condition atTrail Hospital but is expected to survive.

The suspect faces a number of charges and is known to police.

Crisis negotiators were deployed to the scene and police had asked the public to refrain from broadcasting any of their movements.

Argentahas a population of approximately 100 andis located on the shore of Kootenay Lake.
