The latestPlanet of the Apes sequel due to hit movie theatres in the summer of 2017 will feature scenes familiar to many people on Vancouver Island.

Scenes for the movie were filmed on the island's west coast.

"Wefoundourselves with 300 crew, anice build and a lot of people filling hotels and restaurants,"said Joan Miller, with the North Island Film Commission.

Film crews scouted for waterfalls, beaches and cliffs in and around Ucuelet and Tofino.

"It was a good economic boon locally," said Miller.

Ucluelet has been featured in big budget films before in Twilight and Superman.

This time around the production crew was looking to film on private land as to not expose any secrets.

"These really big budget movies, it is really important to keep itconfidential," said Miller.

Crews had to bringing in horses for filming because there were no horses in that area. After bringing the horses in, crews had to look for where to keep them.

But the shooting couldn't be done without the help of locals.

Crews had to bring in horses to the coast.

"They just don't have any horses over in that area," said Miller.

She says the problem wasn't bringing the horses, but the question was where to keep them.

Luckily, a resident had an old barn that wasn't being used.

"The production company went in and fixed it," she said, "not only economic impact from the lease but got their property fixed up."
