Othman Ayed Hamdan appears by video link in Vancouver court on terrorism charges

Othman Ayed Hamdan, a Fort St. John resident who allegedly posted pro-ISIS propaganda online, appeared via video link in a Vancouver courtroom today.

Othman Ayed Hamdan, a Fort St. John resident accused ofpostingpro-ISIS propaganda online, appeared via video link in a Vancouver courtroom today.

Six terrorism-related charges laid against him last yearwere withdrawn and four new federal charges were laid.

The 33-year-old man is now charged withcounseling the commission of the offence of murder at the direction of or inassociationwith a terrorist group

He is also charged with counselling assault causing bodily harm, mischief and directing a person to carry out a terrorist activity.

The charges relate to incidents between Sept. 22, 2014 and July 2015 in Fort St. John B.C.

Earlier this year, Hamdan, sitting behinda glass partitionin the prisoner's box andsporting closely-cropped black hair, abeard andadark grey T-shirt,appeared ata bail hearing.

He shook his head at times, while evidence was presented.

CBC News cannot report on anyevidence heard due to a publication ban.

RCMP accuse Hamdan of distributing propaganda connected with ISISand allege he was instructing people to commit murder in the name of jihad.

His next court appearance is set for Oct. 6.
