North Vancouver neighbourhood flooded after pipes burst

A North Vancouver neighbourhood is without water this morning after a water main break sent water gushing down the street.

Basements and backyards were damaged when an old pipeburst near Golf Drive and Fairway Drive, sending water down the hill.

"Ifeel frustrated," said Mark Jefferson, whowoke to the sound of water rushing into his home. "This is the third time in 15 months that this has happened."

Jefferson said he just renovated his home two months ago and will likely have to start all over again.

"For us there's the actual financial cost, and on top of thatyou'reliving in a renovated home each time," he said.

Crews rush to stop the flooding

Neighbours living aroundLoach Place in North Vancouver rushed to move their cars and save their valuables from the flooding water, before District of North Vancouver crews showed up to cut off the water supply.

Captain Kit Little and his firefighters were on scene working to stop the water from spreading into the neighbourhood.

"It's a big area ... the first thing you got to do when you get on scene is find out how many houses are involved," said Little.

"Itcovers about 3 blocks, this area."

The District said it could be hours before the pipes are repaired.

In the meantime, people living in the area will have to get through the morning without running water.
