More charges laid against former VPD detective

A 29-year veteran of the Vancouver police force is facing two additional charges of sexual assault and one charge of breach of trust in relation to a witness in a criminal investigation.

BC's Criminal Justice Branch has approved more charges against former Vancouver police Det.-Const. JamesFisher.They include two counts of sexual assault and one count of breach of trust in relation to a witness in a criminal investigation.

The charges are in addition tosix other charges laid in December, includingthree counts of sexual exploitation, one count of sexual assault, one count of breach of trust and one count of attempt to obstruct justice, according to court documents obtained by CBC News.

In December 2016, Vancouver police Chief Adam Palmer said one of the alleged victims is a juvenile and another an adult.

Then attorney general and minister of justice Suzanne Anton hands James Fisher a 2014 Community Safety and Crime Prevention award. Anton said at the time that Fisher was part of an 'inspirational group of local heroes.' (Government of British Columbia)

In 2015, Fisherreceived a chief constable Unit Citationfor "extraordinary dedication" for his work in the Counter Exploitation Unit.

He was the lead investigatorin the unit's recent human trafficking investigation thatled to the conviction in September 2014 of Reza Moazami on30 counts of prostitution and sex assault-related offencesinvolving 11 girls and young women between 14 and 19 years of age.

Fisher was suspended with pay December 2016, but VPD StaffSgt. Randy Ficham says Fisher retired in January 2017.

Fisher is scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court, May 30.
