Orlando shooting victims honoured in Maple Ridge with rainbow crosswalk

In solidarity with the victims of the Orlando massacre the City of Maple Ridge has decided to paint a crosswalk in rainbow colours.

In solidarity with the victims of theOrlando massacrethe City of Maple Ridge has decided to paint a crosswalk in rainbow colours.

Maple Ridge will be joininga numberof other citiesthathave previously installed permanent rainbowcrosswalksto show support for theLGBTQcommunity.

"It's really disheartening that we have hate in our world," said Nicole Read, Mayor of Maple Ridge.

"It's important for usthat everyone is aware that we are an inclusive community and that we accept everybody regardless of who they love," Read said.

City staff are still working out the details on where the crosswalk will be andwill report back to council in the next few weeks.

Like many other cities, the flag outside of Maple Ridge'scity hall is flying at half-staff soon tobe replaced by a special 'pride flag' that will fly over city hall from July 24to 31 for Pride Week.
