Alleged driver comes forward in hit and run that killed Vancouver man

Police received a call around 3 a.m. PT Thursday from a passerby who reported discovering a man suffering from serious injuries on Kingsway near Glen Drive. They now say a 54-year-old man has come forward and his vehicle has been seized.

A 54-year-old manhas come forward as the driver allegedly involved ina fatal hit-and-run collision that killed a 39-year-old Vancouver man Thursday morning, police say.

Police received a call around3 a.m. PT Thursday from a passerby who reported discoveringa mansuffering from serious injuries on Kingsway near Glen Drive.

"We're not sure how long the man had been there for," said Sgt. Jason Robillard at a news conference Thursday.

Robillard saidinvestigators believe the vehicle was travelling east on Kingsway when it hit the man.

The victim died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Robillard earlier said police believed the person was not coming forward and would "likely try to hide their vehicle."

Later Thursday, however, police issued a statement revealingthat the alleged driver had come forward and collision investigators have seized his vehicle.

"The 54-year-old driver in this case eventually did the right thing by coming forward,"Robillardsaid in a statement. "He has been released pending further investigation. Charges will be determined once a thorough investigation has been completed."
