Man hospitalized after crashing through Vancouver building

One man was taken to hospital after he drove a sports utility vehicle into a building in Vancouver early Friday morning.

Officials say the man's injuries appear to be minor

A Vancouver business is missing a couple of wallsafter a man drove a sport utility vehicle through the building early Friday morning.

It happened around 1 a.m. PT on 6th Ave. nearBirch Street.

The black Audi SUV struck the northeast corner of TheUrban Puppy Shop after it appearsto have veered off the road.

The driverwas able to walk away from the crash, before he wastaken to hospital with minor injuries, according to officials.

A witness who saw the vehicle shortly before the crash saidthe driver seemed to be going very fast.

"He was drivingerratically,and I definitely was keeping back from him, I didn't want to get too close and get beside him," said the woman, who declined to give her name.

NeighbourLesSchweitzersaid the sound of the crash woke him up.

"At first I thought somescaffoldingfell down, it was one of those kind of noises," said Schweitzer."It sounded like a building falling down."

Schweitzersaid these kinds of incidents happen in the area too often.

"This particular stretch of road, you do get a lot of people speeding on it, especially when the traffic volume is light, this time of night, so you have to be careful."
