DriveBC says Highway 99, north of Lillooet, will continue to be closed until further notice.

The road was closed from Fountain Valley Road through to Pavilion-Clinton Road last week by what officials called a washout on the unstable hillside known historically as the '10-Mile Slide' or 'Fountain Slide' area.

The Ministry of Transportation said it would issue an update on the repairs Monday morning, but that update is now set for Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Lillooet MayorMarg Lampmansays residents are tired of temporary fixes and she wants the province to build a new road altogether.

"We need to get this fixed permanently," she said.

In the meantime says Lampman, the closure is affecting businesses medical appointments and deliveries. She believes the province is hesitant to assign so much money to a rural problem.

"They get more bang for their buck by doing work in bigger centres than they do for rural communities and that'salways been a sore point for rural communities," she said.

"We want to prosper and we are constantly being held back by the lack of funding put into our infrastructure."

In an emailed statement, the Ministry of Transportation says itis committed to working towards a solution, but thatsafety remains the top priority.
