East Vancouver shooting leaves 2 men dead

A double-shooting in East Vancouver last night ended when the car carrying the two victims crashed a block away, eventually leaving two men dead.

The victims were found in a car near Ross Street and East 31st Avenue Thursday night

A double-shooting in East Vancouver last night ended when the car carrying the two victims crashed a block away, eventually leaving both men dead.

Police were called after a report of a shooting near East 31st Avenue and Ross Street around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. When they arrived, they found two menin a car with gunshot wounds.

One man, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other, 32, was taken to hospital in critical condition and died early Friday morning.

Sgt. Randy Finchamsaid the shooting actually occurred near Inverness St. and E31 Ave., and that the Honda Civic carrying the two men then traveled west on E 31 Ave. before turning and crashing on Ross Street.

The victims were known to police and it's believed they were targeted.

Fincham said the VPD is investigating whether this incident is connected to other shootings in the area.

The Vancouver Police Department's Major Crime Section and Gang Crime Unit remain on the scene.

Police closed off a large portion of the residential areaaround the scenewhile forensics teams gathered evidence.

No arrests have been made, according to a statement.

The deaths are Vancouver's fifth and sixth homicides of 2017.

VPD members will be going door to door in the neighbourhood this morning, looking for witnesses or any useful video.
