Cypress Mountain closes due to lack of snow in Vancouver

Cypress Mountain is closing down operations until further notice due to a lack of snowfall on Vancouver's North Shore ski hills.

A statement on the ski hill's Facebook pageon Tuesday said the mountain would be "ready to re-open at the first sign of new snowfall or a snowmaking opportunity."

"This winter has been a challenge so far and we have done everything we could to provide the best on-mountain operation possible since we first opened almost three months ago on Nov.15," the statement said.

Conditions on Vancouver's North Shore ski hills Grouse, Cypress and Seymour have been getting steadily worse recentlyas thePineapple Express storms brought balmy temperatures and heavy rains to the region.

Mt. Seymour is already closed and awaitingmore snow. Meanwhile, Grouse Mountain only has one green run and one terrain park open, but says staff aredoing everything they can to keep the mountain open.

For anyone holding a Cypress Mountain season pass, the statement said, the number of days the mountain was shut downwouldform the basis for any calculated discount onnext years season pass.

"We will make a fair assessment of the operating days based on the criteria listed at the time of saleand we can assure you that many of the days we have been open to date will not count on the Assurance Program."
