Vancouver Commercial Drive fire sends 1 man to hospital, displaces 20 others

A Vancouver three-alarm fire early Monday morning in a residential building at 1389 Commercial Drive has sent one man to hospital and left 20 others displaced.

A three-alarm fire early Monday morning in a residential building at " target="_blank">1389 Commercial Drivein Vancouver has sent one man to hospital and left 20 others displaced.

The fire broke out just after one a.m. in the rear of the three-storeyresidential building, which hasstreet level businesses along Commercial Drive. One man was rescued and was treated for minor injuries in hospital.

Beau Bennett, posted on his Facebook page that his apartment, "had a really bad fire today. It was incredibly scary. Nobodies [sic] hurt! God bless!"

The fire was contained to foursuites in the north west corner of the building while up to 50 firefighters were called to the scene.

"A tough aggressive response helped contain the fire to four suites," said Assistant Fire Chief Ron Coulson with Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services.

The remainder of the suites have smoke damage as investigators are looking to determine the cause of the fire.

Vancouver's Emergency Social Services is helping the people displaced by the blaze.
