Christopher Neil pleads guilty to 5 more child sex and porn charges in B.C.

A British Columbia man who had been imprisoned inThailand for sexually assaulting young boys has pleaded guilty inCanada to five sex tourism and pornography charges involvingchildren.

Christopher Neil, 40, admitted in B.C. Supreme Court onWednesday to five of 10 charges pending since March 2013.

The province's Criminal Justice Branch says the guilty pleaspertain to two charges of sexual interference involving two boys under the age of 14 in Cambodia in 2003,one charge of possessing child pornography in Maple Ridge in 2007, and two charges of accessing child pornography in Vancouver in 2013 and 2014.

Branch spokesman Neil MacKenzie says the Crown does not plan toproceed on the remaining charges. Neil remains in custody.

The former English teacher and Maple Ridge, B.C., resident earned the nickname "Mr. Swirl" or "Swirl Face" in 2007 during aworldwide manhunt. In hundreds of internet photos that showed him sexually abusing boys in Southeast Asia,Neil had digitally swirled his face to hide his identity. German police succeeded in unscrambling the photos.

Neil wasarrested in Thailand where he served five years in prison before returning to B.C. in 2012.

He was arrested by the RCMP upon his arrival at Vancouver airport under a section of the Criminal Code which allows the court to place conditions on the release of people deemed likely to sexually assault children.

Neil was placed on strict conditions includinga ban on contact with anyone under the age of 16, and a ban on accessingthe internet by computer or phone.

Last year he was sentenced to three months in prison and three years' probation for possessing devices capable of accessing the internet.

Neil's sentencing hearing is scheduled to begin in late February 2016.
