Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival looking for 'scouts' to track iconic blossoms

It may not be spring yet, but the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival is looking for cherry scouts to help them spot the delicate flowers already blooming around the city.

"Originally a cherry scout was a volunteer who had a specific neighbourhood and they watched from about February, the beginning of this amazing thing, the blossoming of our 40,000 cherry trees and they report, they take photos," festival director Linda Poole told The Early Edition.

Poole said scouts report on the progression of the blossoms in their area as the season goes on.

She hopes everyone takes in the cherry blossom season, whether they're an official scout or not.

"Make sure you catch it, because it's all very fleeting so you've got to act now because you don't want to miss it. The bloom is different and more beautiful, it seems, every year," she said.
