Seal of approval: baby seal rescued near Deep Cove

A baby seal has been rescued after being found stranded near Deep Cove, police say. Sidney North Saanich RCMP responded the report on Aug. 10 at 5 p.m. PT, who then contacted the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Centre.

Police say they rescued a baby seal found stranded on some rocks in Deep Cove in North Saanich.

In a news release,Sidney North Saanich RCMPsay theyresponded to areport about thestranded animalon Aug. 10 at 5 p.m.

They say they then contacted the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Centre, which analyzed photos and video of the animal and determined it needed further assistance.The pupwas thentransported to Wild Arc in Victoria.

The pup has been named Laki-Kai, which they say roughlytranslated from Hawaiian means"Lucky-Sea."

RCMP say Laki-Kai is now being taken care of by Rescue Centre staff in Vancouver who expect him to make a "favourable" recovery.

RCMP say the Rescue Centre will provide updates about the seal on their Facebook page in coming days.

The baby seal was found in the Deep Cove area stranded on some rocks. RCMP responded and transported the pup to Wild Arc in Victoria. (Sidney North Saanich RCMP)
