B.C. storm stops ferries, flights, power

A severe storm is rolling across B.C., forcing the cancellation of two ferries, cutting power to thousands and dumping snow across theInterior regions of the province.

On Wednesday morning, B.C. Ferries cancelled the 9 a.m. PT sailing from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen and the 11 a.m. PT sailing from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay,but noother sailings werecancelled later in the day.

Environment Canada says wind gusts reached 100 km/h on the coast. Ten to20 centimetres of snow are forecast for central and northern Interior regions.

BC Hydroreported about 15,000 customersacross the province were without poweron Wednesday morning. Across much of northern and central B.C., bitterly cold winds blew snow onto slippery roadways, making driving treacherous.

At least one school in Prince Georgeclosed for the day and some morning flights out of Prince George, Castlegar and Quesnel were cancelled.
