B.C. records 4th swine flu death

B.C. has recorded another death from H1N1 flu virus, the fourth confirmed "swine flu" death in the province since July 13.

B.C. has recorded another death from H1N1 flu virus, the fourth confirmed "swine flu" death in the province since July 13.

The latest death occurred sometime after Aug. 4 in the VancouverCoastal Health Authority, the B.C Ministry of Health said in a news release late Monday.

The ministry also reports 42 new case of the H1N1 flu across the province within the same time period.

Of the new cases, 19 have occurred in the Fraser Health Authority, 15 in Vancouver Coastal Health, four on Vancouver Island, two in Northern Health and two in Interior Health, the ministry said.

The release was not specific about the date of the latest death.

The ministry said all four B.C. victims had underlying health issues in addition to the flu.

Vancouver CoastalHealth's area of responsibility includesthe cities of Vancouver and Richmond, northwest to Pemberton, Whistler and the Sunshine Coast.

The total number of laboratory confirmed cases in B.C. is 676, according to the ministry.
