Abbotsford boy who fell from 3rd-storey window survives with multiple fractures

Police are asking caretakers of children to move furniture and keep windows closed after 4-year-old climbed up a couch to get to the window.

A four-year-old boy who fell fromthethird-storeywindow of an apartment inAbbotsford, B.C., is suffering frommultiple fractures but is expected make a full recovery, police say.

Abbotsford Police say the toddler fractured both his femurs after he climbed up a couch,pushed through a window screen and fell out of the window.

The accident happened at an apartment complex in the 32000-block of MountWaddingtonAvenue at about 8 p.m. PT on Saturday night.

Because incidents like these are "common" as temperatures continue to rise, police arenow reminding caretakers of children to evaluate and minimize risks in their homes.

"The Abbotsfordpolice are recommending people take a look around, see what windows are open," said public information officerSgt. Judy Bird.

"Make sure that children are supervised. If we can't be around themall the time, then put some sort of lock on the window."

Bird also suggested moving furniture away from open windows and making sure windows are open no wider than 10 centimetres to help prevent a child from falling out.
