WestJet pulls out of Windsor, Ont.

WestJet Airlines pulls out of Windsor, Ont.; shifts capacity to London, Ont. and adds more flights to U.S.

WestJet Airlines announced several operating changes Wednesday, including the decision to pull out of Windsor, Ontario.

The Calgary-based discount airline said it will stop service to the city effective Oct. 30. WestJet has been flying to Windsor since April, 2003. WestJet will be shifting its capacity from Windsor to London and offering increased non-stop service between London and Calgary.

At the same time, the carrier said it will move its operations in Toronto from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 on June 22.

WestJet said it will cost less to operate from Terminal 3 and there are more conveniences there and more room to accommodate the airline's expanding operations.

In addition, WestJet announced a revamped flight schedule that includes more service to U.S. destinations. The company is adding new service to Fort Myers, Fla., on Sept. 6 and to Las Vegas on Sept. 8.

WestJet shares were off 20 cents at $14.90 on the TSX.

CanJet leaving Hamilton

While WestJet said it was pulling up stakes in Windsor, Halifax-based CanJet told employees in Hamilton it's withdrawing its service there on July 18.

The change will leave CanJet serving 13 locations in eastern and central Canada and the United States
