David Lynch quits Twin Peaks revival

Twin Peaks co-creator David Lynch says he won't be directingepisodes of the Americanseries' revival planned for Showtime, but that the network may move forward with it anyway.

Last October, it was announced that nine new episodes of the cult classicwouldbe written and produced byco-creator Mark Frost, withLynch reprisinghisrole as director.

In a series of tweets on Sunday, Lynch said he was walking awayovermoney.

"After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done.

"This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing. Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime.

"I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently."

Showtime still hopeful

The serializeddrama, set in aa fictional Washington town,first aired on ABC in 1990.

The show was dark, bizarre and attracted a loyallegion of fans as it told the stories of Twin Peaks residents after the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer. It ran for two seasons.

Showtime had promised the show's third seasonwould continue where the original story left off and provide "long-awaited answers and a satisfying conclusion."

Variety reported that the network responded to Lynch's statement on Sunday.

"We were saddenedto read David Lynch's statement today since webelieved we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points," it said. "Showtime also loves the world ofTwin Peaksand we continue to hold out hope thatwe can bring itback in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm."
