The German Cockroach: Why We’ll Never Be Rid of It

Bad news. Researchers discover that all our attempts to wipe the pesky bug out are only making them stronger.

The German cockroach is one well-adapted bug. All our attempts to wipe it out is only making it stronger. It's evolved to avoid poison bait laced with glucose — something few living things do.

"It's really an arms race," says Dr. Coby Schal, an entomologist North Carolina State University, "the cockroach evolves to avoid whatever we throw at it. There's no way we'll ever eradicate the German cockroach."
