JONATHAN PINTO NAMED NEW HOST OF CBC RADIO UP NORTH

Jul 21, 2020

July 21, 2020 — CBC Thunder Bay and CBC Sudbury today announced that Jonathan Pinto has been named as the new host of UP NORTH, weekdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET on CBC Radio One. Pinto will assume hosting duties in early September.

Originally from Peterborough Ontario, Pinto brings a wealth of experience to the role, including a multi-media approach to journalism and storytelling. His innate curiosity and unique conversation style allows him to connect with diverse audiences across various regions.

“I’m thrilled to join the fantastic teams at CBC Sudbury and CBC Thunder Bay as the host of Up North,” says Pinto. “As a person who loves road trips, I’m excited to explore northern Ontario with family and friends, both old and new. I hope my unique approach will lead to interesting conversations you won’t hear anywhere else. I'm looking forward to sharing the stories that matter to my new community and being welcomed into listener’s homes.”

“Jonathan is an adept storyteller, who will help us strengthen community connections, expand our audience, and drive coverage reflecting the diversity of northern Ontario, especially with our Indigenous communities,” said Fiona Christensen, executive producer CBC Sudbury. “He’s intimately involved with the community wherever he lives, and we’re looking forward to having him join our award winning teams in Sudbury and Thunder Bay.”

“When not digging up stories and chasing down leads, Jonathan can be found planning road trips to new and quirky destinations—no town is too small or too ‘local’ to escape his interest,” said Michael Dick, executive producer CBC Thunder Bay. “A natural born communicator at heart, he genuinely enjoys helping people tell their story and I know our Up North audiences will be well served with him in the host chair.”

Pinto fell in love with CBC Radio at the age of 14 while listening to CBC Toronto’s Here and Now. He appreciated how the accents and stories reflected his own parents, who are from India. Over the last ten years with CBC, Pinto has maintained an unwavering commitment to truth, accuracy and accountability. He has previously worked in Toronto, Windsor and London as a producer, reporter and  guest host. He also has a Masters in Urban Planning and a Bachelor of Arts in Canadian Studies. You can connect with Pinto on Twitter

UP NORTH can be heard weekday afternoons from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., in Sudbury and Thunder Bay, on CBC Radio One and the CBC Listen App. The show takes a look at the day's news and events from across northern Ontario.
