Bill Roach - CBC Media Centre

Bill Roach

Bill Roach brings his passion for music that spans generations and his love for quirky everyday oddities to life as host of the popular Maritimes show, WEEKEND MORNINGS, each Saturday and Sunday on CBC Radio One. Bill also showcases music from across the Atlantic region on the Saturday afternoon performance show, EAST COAST MUSIC HOUR. Prior to this, Bill worked on CBC Radio Ones afternoon show for mainland Nova Scotia, MAINSTREET.

Growing up all over Cape Breton, Bill developed a keen interest in radio. His passion for classic radio dramas of the '50s took Bill on a path of discovery leading him to find radio greats like Peter Gzowski and Garrison Keillor. After helping build a closet-sized radio station in his high school at the age of 15, Bill landed a gig with CIGO radio in Port Hawkesbury.

Bill went on to attend the Radio and Television Arts program at NSCC Kingstec in Kentville and taught at the School of Journalism at the University of King's College for four years. Bill joined CBC in 2001, first working in Edmonton, then returning to CBC Halifax in 2008.

Useless music trivia fills a big space in Bill's head. But it comes in handy for the multi-genre offerings on WEEKEND MORNINGS. His music collection contains everything from Rita MacNeil to Metallica and he has a soft spot for Broadway musicals and fiddle music.
