When Ron Stewarta coal miner's son from the east coast of Canadatook a residency in emergency medicine in Los Angeles in 1972, emergency care was still in its infancy. Ronald Stewart is a trailblazer in the development of modern emergency medicine and served as the Nova Scotia Minister of Health. He is a companion of the Order of Canada and founded the Music in Medicine program at Dalhousie University's medical school.
