Chief Robert Josephis the Hereditary Chief of the Gwawaenukpeople and one of the remaining first-language speakers of Kwak'wala. Josephis theambassador for Reconciliation Canada and chair of the Native American Leadership Alliance for Peace and Reconciliation.

He received the Order of British Columbia in 2015and is the 2016 winnerof the Indspire Lifetime Achievement Award.
