2013 CBC Short Story Prize: The finalists

CBC Books with its partners the Canada Council for the Arts, Air Canada's enRoute magazine and The Banff Centre is pleased to announce today the finalists for the CBC Short Story Prize / Prix de la nouvelle Radio-Canada.

The finalists' stories were selected from over 2,400 short stories that were received from across the country.

The five English-language finalists are (alphabetically):

• Becky Blake of Toronto, ON for "The Three Times Rule"
• Mathew Howard of Toronto, ON for "Old Hands"
• Roderick Moody-Corbett of Calgary, AB for "Parse"
• Eliza Robertson of Victoria, BC for "L'tranger"
• Jay Tameling of Edmonton, AB for "Sweet Dynamite"

The winner, as selected by the CBC Short Story Prize jury, wasannounced on Tuesday, March 26. Jury members this year are writers Esi Edugyan, Lawrence Hill and Vincent Lam.

The CBC Literary Prizes/Prix littraires Radio-Canada are the most important prizes awarded to unpublished literary work in Canada. They bring visibility to authors who are beginning their writing career and help promote the careers of well-known Canadian writers.

In addition to a cash prize of $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Grand Prize winner will receive a writing residency at The Banff Centre and will be published in Air Canada's enRoute magazine. The other finalists will each receive $1,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts.
