Kate Beaton is one of the most beloved cartoonists in North America, known for her historical comics Hark! A Vagrant and Step Aside, Pops. What many don't know is that before her rise to the top of bestseller lists, she drew her earliest comics while working in Alberta's oil sands.

Those comics later becameher acclaimed graphic memoir, Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands.Since then, the book has been named not only one ofBarack Obama'sfavourite books of 2022, but also the winner of Canada Reads 2023.

Beaton stopped by to tell usabouther reaction to the former U.S. president's endorsement, andwhy she saysshe has the world's best fans.
