Justin Kripps captures 1st overall World Cup title in 2-man bobsleigh

Canada's Justin Kripps won his first overall World Cup title after he and partnerAlexander Kopacz came away with bronze in the 2-man event at the bobsleigh World Cup event in Konigssee, Germany on Saturday.

The Canadian duo posted a two-run time of one minute39.41 seconds to secure third.

"Winning the overall is absolutely huge," Kripps said."It's been a dream of mine since I started driving."

Francesco Friedrich of Germany reached the top of the podium in 1:38.97, while fellow German Johannes Lochnerwas second at 1:39.37.

Kripps finished first in the overall IBSF World Cup standings, earning a Crystal Globe in Knigssee, Germany.

"The Konigssee track is pretty unique. It is quite rhythmic, and I really enjoy driving it," said Kripps. "Today was good all around. We had top starts in both runs. I made some mistakes in the first run, but managed to clean it up for the second run to snag a medal."

Canadians Nick Poloniatoand Neville Wrightfinished 1.22 seconds behind the winner in 10th.

Krippsand Kopaczscored gold in early January in Altenberg, Germany.

After eight races, Kripps finished with 1,631 points, ahead of defending title holder Friedrichat1,504. Canadian Christopher Spring is third at 1347, despite finishing 17th on Saturday.

The German duo took home first place in the 2-man bobsleigh event at the IBSF World Cup in Knigssee, Germany.

"I'm really proud of both Alex [Kopacz]and Jesse [Lumsden]who both pushed very well to share the two-man workload. It's incredible wedidn't finish worse than fourth the whole season," Kripps said.
