31 writers make the 2016 CBC Short Story Prize longlist

31 writers have been selected for the CBC Short Story Prize longlist. The shortlist will be unveiled on April 13 and the winner will be revealed on April 19, 2016.

The next winner of theCBC Short Story Prizewill be found among this list of 31 writers,which includes writerKate Cayley, comic book artist Kasia Juno, novelist Elaine Stirling and poetDave Margoshes.

The longlist was selected by a team of readers, all published Canadian authors:Claire Battershill, Chris Benjamin,Spencer Gordon, Matt Joudrey,Irina Kovalyova,Doretta Lau,Anna Leventhal, Jeffrey Moore,Saleema Nawaz,Jess Taylor, Thomas Trofimuk, andRui Umezawa.

The jury, which consists ofGreg Hollingshead, Padma Viswanathan and Richard Van Camp,will select the four finalists and the grand prize winner. The shortlist will be announced on April 13 and the grand prize winner will be revealed on April 19. The winning author will receive $6,000 from theCanada Council for the Arts, publication inAir CanadaenRoutemagazineand a 10-day writing residency atThe Banff Centre.
