Five authorsmade the 2017 CBC Short Story Prize shortlist.

The finalists were:

• "The Peninsula of Happiness" by Kasia Juno (Montreal, Que.)
• "Witching" by Alix Hawley (Kelowna, B.C.)
• "Everyone Has Come" by Jasmina Odor (Edmonton, Alta.)
• "The Duolect" by Krzystof Pelc (Montreal, Que.)
• "Warrior" by Meg Todd (Vancouver, B.C.)

The shortlist was selected by this year's jury, comprised of Jen Sookfong Lee, Shyam Selvadurai and Marina Endicott.

Each of the finalists received $1,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and hadtheir story published on CBC Books.

AlixHawley was named the winner of the 2017 CBC Short Story Prize for "Witching."

She received $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and a 10-day writing residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and her story waspublished in Air Canada enRoute magazine
