Riders in talks with 'ratio-breaker' Henoc Muamba

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are on the verge of signing yet another NFL cut with CFL experience.

After bringing in defensive lineman Willie Jefferson and receiver Jeff Fuller over the last week, the Riders confirmed they are now negotiating with linebacker Henoc Muamba.

"We're in pretty serious talks with him, he's very interested in coming out. We'll see when he gets here, when he signs his deal and then we'll make a formal announcement." said head coach and general managerChris Jones following Tuesday's indoor practice.

Muamba was a CFL all-star in 2013 while with the Blue Bombers, the team that selected the Congolese-born Canadian first overall in the 2011 draft.

Since then, Muamba hashad the NFL bug getting brief looks from the Indianapolis Colts in 2014, and most recently from the Dallas Cowboys.

He played the latter part of the 2015 CFL season with Montreal.

Muamba would be a nice acquisition for the Riders, a team that lacked national depth all season.

"It's something we struggled with all year long is the ability to, you know once our guards got dinged up, we haven't been able to get them back all year so we've had to play an American at guard, which basically makes you change your ratio defensively so now it allows us to have some flexibility." said Jones who suddenly sounded like Muamba's signing was a done deal.

Cauchy Muamba, Henoc's brother, plays safety for the Eskimos.

In other news, the Riders have already parted company with defensive lineman Ian Seau, the nephew of Junior Seau who was elected posthumously to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015.

After just one practice in the rain with the Riders, he decided football north of the border wasn't for him.

The Riders (3-10), now just one loss away from mathematical elimination, play in Ottawa on Friday night.
