Trent Wotherspoon becomes interim leader of Saskatchewan NDP

It's official: Trent Wotherspoon is the interim leader of the Saskatchewan NDP.

Replaces Cam Broten, who lost his own seat in the April 4 election

Trent Wotherspoon is now the Saskatchewan NDP leader as well as the leader of the Opposition. (CBC)

It'sofficial:Trent Wotherspoon is the interim leader of the Saskatchewan NDP.

He was selected by New Democrats attheir provincial council meeting Saturday morning.

Wotherspoon was uncontested and was acclaimed to the position.

"I feel that I can serve along with our team in that capacity and provide some leadership to make sure that we're holding this government into account, to make sure that people and families aren't left behind, and certainly to preside over the important building blocks and the foundational work of our party," Wotherspoon said.

It's not a surprise, in thatWotherspoonwas previously named interim leader of the Opposition.

Wotherspoon replaces Cam Broten in both those roles.

Broten was defeated in his own Saskatoon Westview constituency in the April 4 provincial election.

The Saskatchewan Party under Leader Brad Wall was re-elected with 51 seats. The New Democrats elected 10 MLAs.
