Suspect in Nanaimo machete attack charged with aggravated assault

Police in Nanaimo, B.C., have charged a man in connection with a machete attack on July 1 that left a local businessman fighting for his life.

Police in Nanaimo, B.C., have charged a man in connection with amacheteattack on July 1 that left a local businessman fighting for his life.

JesseGoodale, 26, of Nanaimo is facing multiplecharges, including aggravated assault and attempted murder.

Police arrestedGoodalein the 600 block of Fifth Street.

He has a lengthy criminal record, including robbery and theft.

The victim of the attack, Rickie Sugars, is currentlyinhospital with life-threatening head injuries. Nanaimo police say he is in serious but stable condition.

Police confirmed that the two men knew each other, and the attack was not random.
