Police canvas River Heights ahead of forum on area's crime problem

Winnipeg police officers and cadets canvassed the River Heights area on Wednesday morning, to give safety tips and invite people to a community forum.

12 teams of officers and cadets were door knocking between Grant Avenue and Academy Road in the area.

Property crime in River Heights has been a major source of irritation for residents some even started a Facebook group that called on MPI to offer breaks on deductibles for the frequent break-ins.

Now, police are hosting a forum at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night at the Corydon Community Centre.

Officers in the area on Wednesday passed out flyers with information on how to prevent break-ins and invited residents to the meeting.

Officers have said more information oncrime statistics for the area will be released at the meeting.
