Uwe Boll's Bauhaus restaurant in Vancouver boasts Michelin-starred chef

He may wear (perhaps unfairly) the epithet "world's worst filmmaker", but low-budget movie director (Rampage, Blubberella) Uwe Boll is sparing no expense when it comes to his latest venture a high-end German restaurant to open in Vancouver this spring.

Boll began advertising for staff in September, describing the project as "Vancouver's most innovative and exquisite new modern restaurant devoted to the prestige and etiquette of the finest European traditions."

The menu at Bauhaus which will open at 1 West Cordova in the original Boneta space will be handled by chef Stefan Hartmann, formerly owner of the Michelin-starred Hartmann's in Berlin, and with an impressive resume that includes some of Europe's top restaurants.

Front of house will be managed by Tim Adams, who has been in charge at a selection of Britain's most upper crust houses, including Kensington Palace and Hampton Court.

Boll appears to have done his research on Vancouver: his YouTube channel, "Restaurants Around the World with Uwe Boll", features a number of videos reviewing meals around the city. Alberni steakhouse Black + Blue is dismissed as "mediocre, the side dishes are disgusting."

Perhaps giving a sense of what Boll is hoping to achieve at Bauhaus, he lavishes high praise on Kitsilano's La Quercia, calling the Italian spot his favourite restaurant in Vancouver.

'It is the exception in Vancouver," he says. "It makes me feel European."
