The United States Justice Department has indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James for bank fraud, raising fears that President Donald Trump is continuing a campaign of retribution against perceived rivals.
Trump has again blamed Democrats for the federal government shutdown and says he will cut “some very popular Democrat programmes” as a result.
Trump’s aggressive and unprecedented National Guard deployments will be tested in two court hearings on Thursday, as governors and local leaders resist the militarisation of their cities.
Trump hosted Finland’s President Alexander Stubb at the Oval Office, but he used the appearance to slam Spain’s resistance to increased military spending: “Maybe you should throw them out of NATO.”
